Flamme is said to be the founder of human magic. She's such an ancient figure that people feel her existence is like something out of a fairytale.

In the past, magic was considered taboo for open research as it was regarded as demon technology. However, Flamme appealed to the largest nation on the continent—the Unified Empire—and the emperor finally authorized nationwide magic research. Flamme also participated in the education of Imperial Mages, a position newly established alongside this authorization.

As a result, magic rapidly spread throughout the continent, ushering in an era where anyone could use magic.

Flamme became Serie's disciple when she was a young girl. Serie, the "Living Grimoire" and head of the Continental Magic Association, recognized Flamme's talent and took her under her wing.

While Flamme dreamed of a world where everyone could use magic—a dream she realized in her short lifetime—Serie believed magic should be reserved for the talented. Despite their differing philosophies, which led Serie to call Flamme a "failure," their relationship remained amicable. Serie seemed to have a special affection for Flamme, whom she had raised since childhood.

Her Only Disciple: Frieren

Flamme discovered and rescued Frieren, who was injured from battling demons. Despite Flamme consistently concealing her magical output, she was so impressed by Frieren's accurate assessment of her strength that she accepted Frieren as her disciple.

Flamme instructed Frieren in her distinctive combat technique: deceiving and eliminating demons by concealing their mana. Recognizing that Frieren would outlive her, Flamme entrusted her with the crucial task of defeating demons.

Flamme's Records of Aureole, Where Souls Rest

Flamme kept detailed journals of her conversations with the deceased, including her former comrades in Aureole—the land we'd call afterlife—located in the far north.

With her remarkable foresight, Flamme anticipated Frieren's future desire to understand people and conveyed this to her disciple during her lifetime.

True to her teacher's prediction, Frieren deeply regretted not seeking to know Himmel and developed a profound wish to comprehend humanity. Guided by Flamme's journals, Frieren now journeys in pursuit of Aureole, the resting place of souls.

Flamme's Past

While detailed aspects of Flamme's past haven't been revealed, in conversations with Frieren, she disclosed that demons took everything from her and that she hated them enough to want to eradicate them completely.

She also told Frieren that her parents taught her "the spell that creates beautiful fields of flowers"—her favorite magic—and that this was what made her fall in love with magic. From this, it can be inferred that demons likely took her parents and homeland from her.

Voice Actress: Atsuko Tanaka

Flamme is voiced by Atsuko Tanaka-san. Born on November 14th in Gunma Prefecture, she has appeared in various popular works, including Motoko Kusanagi in "Ghost in the Shell" and Bayonetta in "Bayonetta".
