WASHINGTON - The United States captured Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro in a predawn military operation Saturday and will run the oil-rich country until a transition of power can occur, President Donald Trump said, in a culmination of months of pressure on the South American leader over allegations of drug trafficking and criminal ties.
Trump said the Venezuelan leader and his wife, who were flown out of their country to New York, will face criminal charges in the United States, labeling Maduro an "illegitimate dictator" and alleging he was "responsible for trafficking colossal amounts of deadly and illicit drugs into the United States."
