TOKYO - Yokozuna Onosato manhandled new ozeki and overnight leader Aonishiki to a defeat at the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament on Saturday as No. 4 maegashira Atamifuji joined the top of the leaderboard heading into the final day.
The victory kept Onosato in the title race, one win off the pace at 10-4, with sekiwake Kirishima, No. 12 maegashira Abi and No. 16 maegashira Oshoumi also at the same mark and in with a shout for the Emperor's Cup in the first meet of 2026.
