SEOUL -- Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) Ltd., South Korea's sole aircraft manufacturer, said Thursday its annual net profit in 2025 rose nearly 10 percent on-year, backed by strong aircraft orders at home and overseas.

KAI's net profit for last year totaled 187.3 billion won (US$127 million), up 9.6 percent from a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Operating profit increased 11.8 percent on-year to 269.2 billion won, while sales edged up 1.7 percent to 3.7 trillion won.

KAI attributed its improved bottom line to a series of large-scale contracts . Last year's new orders were valued at 6.39 trillion won, up 30.4 percent from 2024.

Major deals included a contract for the first mass production of the KF-21 fighter jet at home and exports of the company's FA-50PH light attack aircraft to the Philippines.

For the fourth quarter, the company's net profit surged fivefold on-year to 62.1 billion won.

Operating profit for the October-December period came to 77 billion won, up 82.9 percent from a year ago, while sales rose 34 percent to 1.46 trillion won.

As of the end of 2025, the company's order backlog stood at 27.34 trillion won.

For 2026, KAI said it aims to achieve sales of 5.73 trillion won and new orders worth 10.44 trillion won, up 58.1 percent and 63 percent, respectively, from last year.
