BEIJING - Chinese President Xi Jinping and the leader of Taiwan's main opposition Nationalist Party on Friday took a stand against the island's independence weeks before a planned China visit by U.S. President Donald Trump, during which issues surrounding the territory will likely be discussed.
Calling what he described as forces seeking the island's independence "the chief culprit undermining peace across the Taiwan Strait," Xi told Cheng Li-wun, chief of the party known as the Kuomintang, in Beijing, "We should neither condone nor tolerate it," according to the official Xinhua News Agency.
