TOKYO - Japan midfielder Kaishu Sano scored the opener as Mainz beat Strasbourg 2-0 at home on Thursday in the Europa Conference League quarterfinals first leg.
The 25-year-old gave his team an 11th-minute lead at Mainz Arena by launching and finishing off a deadly counter himself, first winning the ball inside his own half before playing a one-two with his compatriot Sota Kawasaki to get into a dangerous position.
