TOKYO - Injured ozeki Aonishiki will miss the entirety of the ongoing Summer Grand Sumo Tournament, his stablemaster said Friday, sealing the Ukrainian star's demotion from the second-highest rank to sekiwake.
The 22-year-old posted a 7-8 losing record at the Spring meet in March, leaving him as a demotion-threatened "kadoban" ozeki in need of a winning record of eight or more wins at the current tournament to keep his ozeki status.
