TOKYO - Two people believed to be men snatched a bag containing about 8 million yen ($50,000) in cash from a Chinese national in her 60s on a Tokyo street, police said Thursday.
The woman sustained minor head injuries in the incident that occurred in an area near Ikebukuro Station in Toshima Ward on Wednesday night. Police are searching for the suspects who fled the scene, on suspicion of robbery and assault.
A witness made an emergency call at around 8:30 p.m., reporting the robbery. According to the police, the two suspects allegedly sprayed the woman and hit her on the head with their bare hands before stealing the bag.
The robbery happened in an area where restaurants and shops are located.
