APELDOORN, Netherlands - Japan's Emperor Naruhito toured Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn on Monday afternoon during his official visit to the Netherlands.
The emperor, who is staying at the adjacent royal retreat, Het Oude Loo Castle, posed for the media upon stepping into the front courtyard from the main entrance.
The 17th-century palace built by Stadholder-King William III now operates as a museum. The emperor visited rooms used by William III, viewed paintings by royal court artists and examined collections including ceramics. He also took in a view of the gardens from the rooftop.
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are scheduled to head to Amsterdam on Tuesday, where they will attend official events as state guests the following day.
