animate and SEGA are currently in the middle of a massive, year-long project celebrating iconic IPs from the SEGA Group!
This collaboration is a dream come true for fans, bringing eight of SEGA’s world-renowned franchises to over 140 animate stores both in Japan and across the globe. Through immersive displays, exclusive merchandise, and special Gratte cafe collaborations, fans will have more opportunities than ever to get up close and personal with their favorite series.
The second title stepping into the spotlight is the legendary puzzle series "Puyo Puyo." The festivities kick off with a Gratte rollout at international locations starting in July 2026, followed by a massive Fair and Gratte event at both domestic (Japan) and international stores in February 2027. For those unfamiliar, the "Gratte" (Graphic Latte) experience allows you to purchase drinks topped with beautiful character art printed directly onto the cream, alongside specially decorated icing cookies. It’s almost too cute to eat!
This is just the beginning of the SEGA x animate takeover, with many more titles slated for future collaborations. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates!

What is the "Puyo Puyo" Series?
The "Puyo Puyo" series is a beloved action-puzzle gaming staple that has captured hearts worldwide for over 30 years. Since the original "Puyo Puyo" debuted in 1991, its simple yet addictive "easy to learn, hard to master" rule—connecting four or more "Puyo" of the same color to clear them—combined with its cast of unique characters, made it an instant hit.
Since then, the franchise has expanded across home consoles and smartphones, remaining a multi-generational favorite. It has also carved out a significant niche in the e-sports scene as a certified title by JESU (Japan Esports Union), with pro players engaging in high-stakes "chains" and intense battles both in Japan and internationally.
In 2026, as "Puyo Puyo" celebrates its 35th anniversary, it continues to deliver the pure joy of the "Big Chain" to fans everywhere!
