TOKYO - Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu has been training with Crystal Palace in Como, Italy, while weighing a move to the English Premier League club, sports news website The Athletic reported Tuesday.
The former Arsenal defender became a free agent at the end of June following the expiry of his contract with Dutch side Ajax, who he joined on a short-term deal last December.
Tomiyasu left Arsenal by mutual consent last July following prolonged battles with injury, including two surgeries on his right knee in recent years.
The 27-year-old played for Japan at this year's World Cup in North America, from which the Samurai Blue exited with a round-of-32 loss to Brazil in Houston.
Tomiyasu is reported to have attracted interest from elsewhere in England and Europe but is keen to return to the Premier League.
Palace, the UEFA Conference League champions, are the current home of Japan midfielder Daichi Kamada.
