KYOTO - A steel plate weighing around 1.8 kilograms fell onto tracks at JR Kyoto Station on Monday afternoon, but no one was injured and train services were not affected, JR West said.
JR West said the plate was likely roofing material left behind after construction. Renovation work on the roof had been underway at the station in Kyoto, a city in western Japan, from Thursday to Friday.
A passenger on a stopped local train told a conductor that "a steel plate fell onto the tracks" and station staff removed it.
The plate measured 79 centimeters by 43 cm and was 0.6 millimeters thick.
