LOS ANGELES - Yoshinobu Yamamoto surrendered four runs over seven innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered an 8-6 come-from-behind loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday.
Yamamoto gave up five hits, including two home runs, and issued two walks, while striking out eight at Dodger Stadium.
The 2025 World Series MVP was denied a decision after the Cardinals tied the game following his departure. St. Louis added three runs in the 10th.
"My command from the set position wasn't good, and my pitches lacked some of their strength. I also made mistakes over the plate in areas where extra-base hits are likely," Yamamoto said.
"Our lineup scored enough runs, and it was a game we could have won if I had pitched better."
Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts.
Tomoyuki Sugano did not factor in the decision after pitching six innings of three-run ball as the Colorado Rockies walked off the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 in extra innings.
The veteran right-hander allowed six hits and a walk, while fanning four at Coors Field.
"I reviewed my pitching mechanics. I realized I had been putting too much weight on my back leg and wasn't making full use of the slope of the mound," Sugano said.
"I only had four days between starts, but I think I was able to make the adjustments."
