LOS ANGELES - Shohei Ohtani is set to return to game action for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds, said skipper Dave Roberts, who also hinted the two-way superstar is not pitching again this season.
Ohtani missed the Dodgers game for the fourth straight day on Sunday after he felt discomfort in his neck and right biceps during their game on Wednesday.
"Yesterday was a good day, came out of it feeling well, so if nothing else changes or continues to trend, I see him in there tomorrow," Roberts said. "Today he's going to go through his work and should be good to go for tomorrow."
"A handful of days ago, obviously where he was at, and talking to him the day after, just felt that a few days could potentially be of benefit and fortunately that's how it played out."
With Ohtani last in the bullpen on Aug. 28 and yet to even play a catch since, Roberts implied he is not expecting the four-time MVP to return to the mound soon.
"Not officially, but if you're looking at the calendar, how much he's thrown in the last week, I think we can all do the math," he said.
Ohtani is 8-2 after 14 starts as a pitcher this season, posting his MLB career-best 1.79 ERA so far.
