KOFU, Japan - A university in central Japan has commenced trials to adapt a paper-and-plastic bottle for wine that is around 30 percent lighter than glass, aiming to reduce the environmental impact from production and transportation.
With its narrow pouring spout and distinctive shoulder, the latest "efbottle" is instantly recognizable as a wine bottle, although it feels like a milk carton. After removing the cap, consumers can separate the outer paper layer from the inner bottle and dispose of them respectively as burnable and plastic waste.
