SAGA, Japan - Japan's Tomoyuki Matsushita set a swimming short course world record to win the men's 400-meter individual medley on Sunday by clocking 3 minutes, 54.33 seconds at the national championships.
The 21-year-old Paris Olympics silver medalist shed 0.48 from the previous record set in 2019 by his compatriot Daiya Seto, who failed to make the final in Saga in southwestern Japan.
