Chinese delegation visits island disputed between Japan, Russia

MOSCOW - A delegation from the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang visited one of four Russian-held islands claimed by Japan to conduct feasibility studies for joint projects, the government of Sakhalin Oblast, a Russian Far Eastern administrative region that includes the islands, said Tuesday.

The delegation, which included businesspeople, visited Etorofu, the largest of the disputed islands collectively called the Northern Territories in Japan and the Southern Kurils in Russia, which are located off Hokkaido in northern Japan.
