NAGOYA - The men's cricket final between India and Pakistan was the most-watched event of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, drawing an estimated audience of about 1 billion viewers worldwide, Aichi Gov. Hideaki Omura, president of the organizing committee, said Friday.
The final was won by India on Oct. 3, a day before the games closed, and attracted particularly large audiences in the United States, Britain and Canada, Omura said, citing estimates by the Olympic Council of Asia.
The OCA estimates total global viewership for the Games exceeded 3 billion, according to Omura.
"The audience figures show just how significant an event it is," he said.
Looking ahead to the Asian Para Games, which open on Sunday, Omura said organizers would work to ensure athletes can perform in a safe, secure and comfortable environment.
