Advocacy groups call for LGBT rights law in Japan ahead of Tokyo Games

Three groups aiming to improve the rights of sexual minorities, including one created with the help of athletes, launched a petition Thursday calling for the enactment of an anti-discriminatory "LGBT Equality Law" in Japan ahead of next year's Tokyo Games.The advocacy groups said at a press conference in Tokyo that while more than 80 countries around the world have similar laws in place, Japan currently has no legal protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.The groups said they believe such a law should exist in Japan "as a legacy of the Tokyo …READ FULL ARTICLE
