Basketball: Experienced coach Gaines set to lead Japan women's team

Former NBA player and coach Corey Gaines is set to become the head coach of the Japanese women's national team, sources familiar with the matter said Tuesday.Gaines, a 59-year-old from the United States, served as a coach under Tom Hovasse for Japan's men's team at the 2023 World Cup and 2024 Paris Olympics.He was also an assistant coach at the NBA's Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Washington Wizards between 2013 and 2021.In the WNBA, Gaines steered the Phoenix Mercury to the 2007 and 2009 season titles.In women's basketball, Japan earned the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 bef…READ FULL ARTICLE
