2020 Tokyo Games receives double no. of required volunteer applications

The organizers of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games said Wednesday they have received applications from 186,101 people, more than doubling their recruitment target of 80,000 volunteers.Of the people who turned in their applications by the deadline on 5 p.m. Friday, 63 percent are female and 37 percent are non-Japanese.The committee had hoped for 80,000 volunteers through the online recruitment which started in September.
