TOKYO - The nuclear regulator said Wednesday that it must conduct its safety review of a nuclear power plant in central Japan again from scratch after the operator admitted falsifying quake-resistance data.
The remarks by the Nuclear Regulation Authority come after Chubu Electric Power Co. disclosed Monday that it had hand-picked favorable seismic ground motion data when setting earthquake-resistant standards for the Hamaoka nuclear power plant.
