CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy - Chiharu Igaya, Japan's silver medalist in the men's slalom at the 1956 Cortina Winter Olympics, met on Tuesday for the first time in 70 years with then Italy figure skater Manuela Angeli.
Igaya, 94, and Angeli, 86, enjoyed an hourlong conversation during their long-overdue reunion at Parc Hotel Victoria Cortina d'Ampezzo, which had been run by the Italian woman's family at the time and hosted 10 Japanese athletes including Igaya during the games.
