WASHINGTON - U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday voiced hope that Japan, China, and other countries would send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the safety of this vital energy shipping route that Iran has effectively blocked.
Trump's call for the dispatch came ahead of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's visit to Washington next week and is likely to put her in a delicate position. He is also scheduled to travel to Beijing at the end of the month to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
