HONG KONG - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday that Washington was seeking a "positive response" from China after President Donald Trump appealed for the release of Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Jimmy Lai during summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In an interview broadcast on the television network NBC, Rubio said, "The president always raises that case and a couple others, and obviously we'll hope to get a positive response from that."
