TOKYO - Japanese beef-bowl restaurant chain operator Matsuya Foods Holdings Co. on Wednesday opened a high-end takeout shop in a department store in Tokyo's Ginza, responding the growing demand for takeout items.

Matsuya Premium, the company's first permanent department store location, offers seven dishes, including a Kobe beef bowl made with the famed beef from Hyogo Prefecture, priced at 1,390 yen ($9), and a Japanese wagyu hamburger steak with tomato sauce for 1,681 yen.

The shop at Matsuya Co.'s department store in the upscale shopping district opened after Matsuya Foods launched a pop-up shop at the same department store last year -- a collaboration stemming from the two companies having the same name. The pop-up shop was well-received, leading to the opening of the first permanent location.

Matsuya Foods said it arranged conventional products by using luxury ingredients for the shop on the department store's basement food floor, adding that it plans to sell new items incorporating seasonal elements and side dishes in the future.

The company, which sells a regular beef bowl for 460 yen, said its main customers are men in their 30s to 50s. However, its latest attempt aims to attract housewives and the elderly. The company is also considering opening shops in other department stores.
