SAPPORO - A Tigerair Taiwan plane from Taipei made an emergency landing at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido on Friday after smoke was reported in its cockpit, according to the Japanese transport ministry.
No injuries have been reported among the 179 passengers and crew aboard the Airbus A320, the ministry's New Chitose Airport office said.
Flight 234, bound for Sapporo, reported smoke coming from its cockpit at around 10:45 a.m.
A runway at the airport was temporarily closed following the incident.
