TOKYO - Typhoon Higos brushed past areas near Tokyo and brought heavy rain to Pacific coastal regions Saturday, while a stronger typhoon trailing behind could bring more rain and increase the risk of landslides and floods later in the day, the weather agency said.

The two typhoons and a seasonal rain front have already brought downpours to western and southwestern regions, causing landslides and damaging roads. One person was unaccounted for and several others were injured in Yamaguchi Prefecture after a home collapsed due to a landslide on Friday.

While Typhoon Higos weakened to a tropical depression on Saturday morning, Typhoon Mekkhala was

moving northeastward in the Pacific along the western Japan coast and could make landfall in the eastern region, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

Up to 250 millimeters of rain was expected in the central Japan region of Tokai and 200 mm in the Kanto-Koshin region including Tokyo by Sunday morning, according to the agency.
