LOS ANGELES - Shohei Ohtani hit a leadoff home run and went 2-for-4 but the Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to avoid a sweep as they fell 5-3 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
The 437-foot (133-meter) fly ball over center field at Dodger Stadium was the 350th home run of Ohtani's career across Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball, as well as his ninth leadoff shot of the season.
He is the second Japanese player to reach the combined milestone, following Hideki Matsui, who hit 175 home runs in MLB and 332 in NPB.
Ohtani notched his 300th MLB homer in a 4-3 loss at home to the Colorado Rockies last Tuesday, achieving the feat at the fifth-fastest pace in history.
The four-time MVP finished the first half of the season with 22 home runs, 58 RBIs and a .293 batting average. He is 8-2 on the mound with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts over 85-2/3 innings.
He will skip Tuesday's All-Star Game to have his left knee drained to treat a nagging irritation.
