TOKYO - Japan defender Ko Itakura has returned to Borussia Monchengladbach from Dutch football club Ajax, the German top-flight side said Thursday.
The 29-year-old, who captained Japan at this year's World Cup, has signed a contract through 2030.
After spending three seasons with Borussia from 2022, Itakura joined Ajax for the 2025-26 season.
But his playing opportunities in the Dutch top flight were limited due partly to back issues. The center-back made just 26 appearances in all competitions for Ajax and scored one goal.
