The Death of Tolui Changes Everything for the Mongol Empire

Episode 10 opens with a sequence that feels like a fever dream for Ögedei. While trapped within a nightmare in his tent, Tolui appears as a literal scapegoat, taking Ögedei's place to set him free. Ögedei awakens, but the relief is short-lived.

Just as we began to fear a rift forming between the brothers, a much more permanent tragedy struck. On the way back from a prayer ritual, Tolui suddenly collapses in agony. He manages to make it back to Sorghaghtani, only to draw his final breath in her arms.

Rather than a simple falling out, Tolui truly became a "vessel" for his brother’s misfortune. The suddenness of his passing leaves Sitara—and the audience—struggling to process the reality of the situation. Was this truly the result of the ritual, or was it a calculated plot set in motion by someone else?

This is the worst possible outcome for Sorghaghtani, and the Empire’s power balance has been fundamentally rewritten. Even as they mourn the loss of their primary military commander, the recovered Ögedei takes his seat once more—with the enigmatic Boraqchin positioned firmly by his side.

Sitara Reclaims the "Elements"
As the imperial map is redrawn in the wake of Tolui's death, Boraqchin approaches Sitara. As a reward for her role in Ögedei’s recovery, Boraqchin presents Sitara with the one thing she has craved more than anything: the manuscript of the "Elements."

This is the very book that was snatched away by Tolui, the catalyst for the loss of her beloved mistress, Fatima. However, Töregene should have been the only person who knew how much Sitara desired Elements...

Furthermore, Boraqchin has not only claimed the "Elements" but has also taken over the vast collection of scrolls and books gathered by Sorghaghtani. Standing before this mountain of knowledge, she declares her intent to "create an empire through wisdom." Boraqchinn envisions a nation ruled not by the sword, but by the mind. Championing this ideal, Boraqchin extends a hand to Sitara, asking: "Will you not lend that wisdom to the empire?"

Looking back at the chain of events, the way authority, military might, and knowledge have all converged on Ögedei following Tolui’s death feels almost as if it were scripted by Boraqchin herself. She has seen through Sitara’s schemes and now seeks to turn her into a pawn. She is, without a doubt, a formidable adversary. Shaken by Boraqchin’s offer, and having finally reclaimed the Elements she sought, how will Sitara choose to use the knowledge, experience, and wisdom she has accumulated moving forward?

The Secret Töregene Kept

Clutching the "Elements," Sitara’s mind drifts back to Muhammad. Just as he taught her, Sitara has spent her life gathering wisdom and transforming it into the strength to survive. Now that she has at last reclaimed Elements, the question becomes: how will she choose to use that wisdom?

To find out, Sitara poses a single question to Boraqchin, testing how much the Empress truly knows about her past and motivations—specifically, how she knew Sitara wanted Elements so desperately. Boraqchin’s response reveals that she remains ignorant of the deeper details of Sitara's history. In that moment, Sitara reaches a realization: Töregene did not reveal everything. She kept the truth of Sitara’s identity and the sentimental weight of the book a secret.

As Sitara leaves Boraqchin’s tent, she carefully steps over the threshold. It is a casual gesture, yet it feels charged with quiet determination. Töregene had protected their shared secret; now, Sitara chooses to become its guardian in return.

Afterward, seeking Töregene’s whereabouts, Sitara visits Qadaq, who is also taking action to rescue her. Working behind the scenes is Güyük, a suspicious young man revealed to be the son of Ögedei and Töregene. Leaving Boraqchin behind, Sitara joins Güyük and his allies to save Töregene. Armed with her intellect, a new chapter in Sitara’s story is about to begin!

Synopsis

A young girl and a royal consort.

After losing her mother and being torn from her homeland, a young girl named Sitara is taken in by Fatima, the kind wife of a family of scholars.
"If you study and become wise, you will know exactly what to do no matter what hardships come your way."
Stirred by these words from Fatima’s son, Muhammad, Sitara discovers the vital importance and limitless potential of "knowledge," devoting herself to her education in hopes of one day standing as an equal to him.

However, the tide of history is unforgiving. The Mongol Empire, led by Genghis Khan, is expanding its reach daily, and the waves of conquest eventually swallow Sitara’s city.
Stripped of everything by Tolui, the Empire’s fourth prince, and taken prisoner, Sitara makes a deadly vow: she will use her only remaining weapon—her intellect—to worm her way into the royal family and collapse the empire from within.

Taking on the name "Fatima," inherited from her late mentor, she enters the service of the empire while hiding the flames of revenge in her heart.
