TOKYO - Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. plans to boost its defense sales to 1 trillion yen ($6.3 billion) or more in the mid-2030s, as Japan ramps up spending to enhance defense capabilities to respond to new security challenges.
The target, double the approximately 510 billion yen estimated for the current fiscal year, underscores the heavy machinery maker's increased focus on its defense business, keeping pace with Japan's push for "new ways of warfare" utilizing drones and artificial intelligence.
