TOKYO - NTT Docomo Inc. said Friday its high-speed 5G standalone mobile service has been restored after a nationwide disruption lasting around 14 hours.
The major carrier said voice calls, data communications and text messaging on 5G SA were unstable from around 11:18 a.m. Thursday until around 1:20 a.m. Friday. Customers need to sign up separately to use the service.
The disruption was caused by congestion in switching equipment serving subscribers to the service, according to the company. Its investigation found no signs of unauthorized access or a cyberattack.
It said other 5G and 4G services, as well as mobile networks offered by other businesses using NTT Docomo's network, were unaffected. Emergency calls were also unaffected.
Separately, the carrier said Thursday its online shop and "My docomo" customer portal remained suspended after a breach that exposed personal information linked to up to 300,000 customer accounts.
It said no further data leaks have been detected but did not provide an estimated time frame for the resumption of services.
