CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy - Davy Zyw, a Para snowboarder representing Britain, did not come to the Milan Cortina Paralympic Winter Games for medal glory but to leave his young son with precious memories of his father.
According to the British Paralympic Association, Zyw, 38, is believed to be the first winter Paralympian with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as motor neuron disease, an incurable condition affecting nerves in the brain and spinal cord that causes progressive muscle weakness and usually shortens a person's lifespan.
