LOS ANGELES - Shohei Ohtani turned the game around with his 27th home run as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals 4-2 on Wednesday.
The two-way star slugged a first-pitch sinker from Daniel Lynch IV (4-4) with one on and one out in the third inning and sent the ball to the left-center seats for a 3-2 lead at Dodger Stadium.
After his first homer in six games, Ohtani also had a single in the seventh as he finished the game 2-for-4.
"I'm happy we won. I hit a fat ball well," Ohtani said. "I was trying not to pull it and intent on hitting one toward the center. It went in a nice direction."
In Toronto, Kazuma Okamoto returned after missing two games with left knee pain and made an immediate impact as the Toronto Blue Jays won 6-4 to send the Boston Red Sox to their fifth straight defeat.
Rookie Okamoto doubled and scored the game's opening run in the second before plating the Blue Jays' go-ahead run with two on and no outs in the eighth, singling to left center for a 2-1 lead to spark a five-run inning for the home team.
"I was able to go into the game focused and I'm happy with the win," Okamoto said. "I wanted to advance the runners in any way possible (in the eighth)."
Seiya Suzuki singled in two runs and went 2-for-4 as the Chicago Cubs beat the Washington Nationals 12-6.
