Episode 4: “Liquid Shadow”
Synopsis
The person behind the freeze on ITEM’s bank accounts is linked to the management of “Colosseum,” an illegal underground fighting event. The funding for this brutal event comes from life insurance policies taken out on the participants. After identifying the insurance firm involved and a specific managing director who serves as the key player, Mugino and the crew plan a raid to extract information.
Standing in their way is the director’s bodyguard, the esper Mitori Kozaku. Capable of manipulating liquid metal with lethal precision and showing zero regard for civilian collateral damage, she proves to be a formidable foe. Through coordinated teamwork, ITEM manages to secure the executive, but they soon find that the intel they need to reach the Colosseum is still frustratingly out of reach…

Synopsis
A massive metropolis known as “Academy City” sits in Western Tokyo.
With a total population of 2.30 million—roughly 80% of whom are students—the city implements a specialized curriculum for ESP development. The students’ abilities are ranked across six tiers, ranging from “Level 0” (No Ability) to “Level 5” (Overpower).
It is a dream-like educational institution boasting scientific technology that far surpasses the standard world, where anyone is granted scientific powers and can live safely. Yet, behind this facade of peace lies the “Dark Side”—underground organizations that handle dirty work never meant to see the light of day.
“ITEM”—an elite squad composed of four girls.
Saiai Kinuhata, who controls nitrogen to provide an ironclad defense.
Frenda Seivelun, who wreaks havoc on the battlefield with explosives and traps.
Rikou Takitsubo, who can track others by sensing the faint “AIM diffusion fields” emitted by espers.
And Shizuri Mugino, one of only seven “Level 5” espers in the entire city.
Then, a “fifth” girl appears before them.
Her arrival will lure ITEM into a brand-new darkness—
This is a story depicting the daily lives, bonds, and deep, dark abysses of quite unusual esper girls—steeped in violence, outrage, and depravity.
