M7.5 earthquake hits off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula: USGS

A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.The quake was registered at a depth of 56.7 kilometers about 219 kilometers south-southeast of Severo-Kurilsk in the Kuril Islands, located north of Hokkaido, at around 11:50 a.m. Japan time.The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said hazardous tsunami waves were possible within 1,000 km of the quake's epicenter, and originally issued a tsunami watch for Hawaii.
