TOKYO - Former Japan international Kazuyoshi Miura, 59, will continue to play in the J-League's third division for the upcoming 2026-2027 season, his club said Thursday. The striker will turn 60 during the season.

J3 club Fukushima United will extend the short-term loan deal for Miura from J2 outfit Yokohama FC for another year through June 30 next year, both teams said.

Miura made his first J-League appearance in five years in a one-off tournament that ran through early this month at the age of 59 years, three months and 12 days, extending his own record as the oldest player to compete in a Japanese professional league game.

A native of Shizuoka Prefecture, Miura was a key figure in the rise of Japanese football's popularity following the launch of the J-League. He won the MVP award in its inaugural season in 1993.
